How Xerese Cream fights cold sores

Antiviral PLUS a clinically proven anti-inflammatory

The role of inflammation

Inflammation

Immune cells mobilize to fight a foreign invader, like the cold sore virus, and release chemicals that cause inflammation. This helps isolate the foreign substance and prevent it from spreading to other parts of the body. The symptoms of inflammation are redness, swelling, tenderness and pain.

Xerese is the first and only cold sore medication that combines an antiviral drug (acyclovir) and an anti-inflammatory drug (hydrocortisone) in one easy-to-apply cream.

Acyclovir blocks the HSV-1 virus from replicating, or copying itself. Because the virus can no longer replicate, the cold sore outbreak is shortened. Acyclovir is the same antiviral medication used in Zovirax® ointment and gel.

Hydrocortisone is a clinically proven treatment to reduce inflammation. Xerese reduces symptoms such as lesion size and tenderness.
