You likely know what it feels like—the tingling, the itching, the burning—before it starts. These are the early warning signs of a cold sore. Next, small blisters appear, usually around the mouth. Eventually, they break open (and can be very painful) before crusting over. A cold sore usually lasts about 1 to 2 weeks.
The time to begin treatment with XERESE® is when you feel the early warning signs.
When you have a cold sore, you can also have other symptoms, like pain and swelling at the site of the cold sore.

XERESE® (acyclovir and hydrocortisone) cream 5%/1% is a prescription medicine used in patients ages 6 and older to lessen the healing time of cold sores (herpes labialis) and lessen the chance of a cold sore becoming worse (ulcerating). It should be used early, at the first sign of a cold sore.
